    Course Overview: Trimble Access – Setting Out Essentials

    Course Overview

    This training course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for operating a Trimble Total Station with Trimble Access for general site setting out tasks. While no prior experience with Trimble Access is required, a background in surveying or setting out is advantageous. The course features an initial classroom briefing followed by hands-on outdoor fieldwork exercises.

    Learning Objectives

    Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Perform a Resection station setup
    • Verify position accuracy using a Control Point
    • Select appropriate Trimble Target types and tracking modes
    • Create and manage Projects and Jobs
    • Import setting out design data from CSV, DXF, and TTM file formats
    • Execute setting out for points, polylines, and surfaces
    • Install pegs and profile board markers
    • Apply offset techniques for setting out tasks
    • Manipulate CAD drawings, including exploding elements and creating nodes
    • Measure surface points and compute volume calculations
    • Generate professional setting out reports

    • Fieldwork data and task preview
    • Loading design data onto the controller via USB
    • Introduction to targets, poles, search options, and function keys

    Total Station Setup

    • Performing a Resection setup
    • Checking onto a Control Station

    Setting Out Points

    • Setting out building pad corners
    • Setting out pad corner offsets from a keyed-in line
    • Precisely setting out brickwork corners
    • Checking dimensions between brickwork corners
    • Reporting site levels
    • Setting out manhole positions
    • Establishing profile boards for drainage runs

    Setting Out Lines from CAD Files

    • Placing pins along a kerb string face
    • Positioning pins at the back and top of a kerb
    • Setting out gully centers

    Surfaces & Volumes

    • Setting out surfaces
    • Computing Cut/Fill volumes
    • Calculating stockpile volumes

    Office-Based Activities

    • Generating setting out reports
    • Course assessment
    • Learning references and supplementary materials

    Target Audience

    This course is designed for professionals responsible for site setting out tasks using Trimble Access, including site engineers and survey engineers. While no prior experience with Trimble equipment is necessary, familiarity with surveying or setting out practices is beneficial.

    Tools and Software

    • Trimble Total Station: Trimble S5 or S7 Robotic Total Station
    • Field Software: Trimble Access
    • Field Controller: Trimble TSC5

    By the end of this course, participants will be proficient in performing essential setting out tasks using Trimble Access. Course materials and additional learning resources will be provided through the KOREC Geoschool learning platform.
