GIS and GPS have become vital tools for foresters to manage anything from infrastructure, to harvesting, disease monitoring and maintenance to name but a few. Forestry and Timber News (the member’s magazine for Confor) will be using its April and June issues to look at some of the survey/mapping equipment that’s making an impact on the industry. The June issue will feature a KOREC written article on GPS and UAV’s using Northern Ireland’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (DARD) Forest Service as a useful example of how this technology can be made to deliver.

The latest edition of GeoConnexion is out now and features two articles from KOREC. Our Operations Director, Oliver Brooks, is a regular contributor with his ‘Modern Surveying‘ column and this month looks at the subject of smart metering. Not to be outone, KOREC’s Mapping and GIS Consultant, Martyn Palmer, identifies the data capture challenges facing the Utilities and offers up a few solutions incuding Intelligent Trench’s RFID technology and Cloud Computing.
