TechTips – Trimble Access job file update

KOREC Group

If you have taken delivery of a new Trimble Access logger you may wish to use the job files from your old logger to carry on working on surveys and projects that you had not finished with before changing logger. You can do this by copying the files from the Trimble Data directory of the original logger into the Trimble Data directory of the new device, simple! However, you may find that the job files from the original logger will not open in the new device if it has a later version of Trimble Access installed. Don’t panic – Trimble… Read More

OSNet network maintenance

It has been brought to our attention that the Ordnance Survey UK are planning to perform maintenance work on their OSNet active GNSS base station system. This will impact all systems related to the OSNet, including Trimble’s VRS Now amongst other GNSS network RTK correction systems in use within the UK. The maintenance work is planned to take place between the hours of 0900UTC and 1000UTC (9am to 10am GMT) on 20th November and 27th November 2011. The planned work is expected to result in a total loss of connections to the OSNet station data stream for up to 45… Read More

Trimble release online planning tool for GNSS applications

KOREC Group

Trimble have recently released an online version of their popular (and free!) planning tool for GNSS applications, available at http://www.trimble.com/GNSSPlanningOnline/. If you’ve not heard of the planning tool before, it allows a user to plot the course of the various GNSS constellations over the next 30 days by using a downloaded almanac. The beauty of the online planning tool is that it allows you to view the same information but without having to download any almanac or install any software, thereby taking a step out of the process. The user can position themselves (or their impending survey) using an easy… Read More

GPS Config for post-processing

For all those who use Trimble office software to post-process GNSS survey data there is now a new configuration update file available dated 17th October 2011. This file updates the antenna and receiver information used in GPS post processing to ensure that the best possible levels of accuracy are achieved from your data. As the Ordnance Survey take advantage of the regular improvements in receiver and antenna technology it is important to keep up to date with the characteristics of any new hardware in order to calculate GPS positions accurately and correctly. The latest Configuration update file can be found… Read More

GNSS post processing in TGO

It has come to our attention that it is no longer possible to compute fixed positions from GNSS (GPS) observations using Trimble Geomatics Office software. This results from the number of GPS seconds rolling over 1 billion shortly after midnight on 14th September 2011 (0 seconds having been set on 6th January 1980) and the WAVE Baseline Processor not being able to handle the numbers involved therefore any data observed on or after this date will not process to a fixed position in TGO. It is still possible to process float solutions although this does not usually provide sufficient accuracy… Read More

BIM to field with Trimble

Since the start of 2011, we’ve seen all the major industry publications from NCE to CES take a closer look at BIM (Building Information Modelling). Our own Technical Director Oliver Brooks has even had his say in GeoConnexion. But what is BIM and why the sudden flux of articles, many of which highlight the fact that almost half of those involved in our industry are unaware of it? Put simply, BIM is not a suite of slick software but a process, a process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Typically BIM is a 3D representation of… Read More
