KOREC Rail announces plans for Rail Live – Stand F25
The KOREC Rail theme for this years’ Rail Live event is ‘MORE, MORE, MORE! Here’s why:
KOREC Rail is renowned for delivering Trimble technology for track survey and measurement, but did you know that we also offer rail related mapping, forensics, monitoring, 3D Laser Scanning and mobile mapping solutions?
On our stand we’ll have all the KOREC Rail team plus consultants from our monitoring and mapping business as well as Trimble Rail’s Matthew Moss.
On the stand, we’ll be featuring two Trimble GEDO systems, Trimble’s MX50 Mobile Mapping System, a Trimble X7 3D Laser Scanner, a Trimble S9 high accuracy Total Station and a Trimble SX12 Scanning Total Station. We’ll also have a ‘tunnel’ and rail setup.
KOREC is s a proud member of the SME Climate Hub, and we have publicly committed to halving our carbon emissions (2021 baseline) by 2030 what better way to reflect this than with our Rail Live KOREC giveaways, individual mini desk top gardens & seed bombs!…and if it’s sunny, we’ll also have KOREC branded sun cream.
….and just when you thought we couldn’t offer anything else, don’t forget to tag @KORECrail on our LinkedIn page to win £300 worth of Greggs vouchers.
We look forward to welcoming you on stand F25.

Did you know that our KOREC Monitoring team is also extremely experienced in rail applications? In fact we’ve had so many enquiries from the rail sector during 2022 that we’ve extended this team to meet all your specialist enquiries. From tunnel monitoring during piling and excavation work at Kings Cross to monitoring the Metro in Newcastle City Centre in the North East, our expertise will bring KOREC customers seamless workflows, logical processes, and the ability to display data in the formats required for rail projects.

As HS2 takes off we want to be in a strong position to support this benchmark engineering rail project and of course all our other customers to the highest level.
Especially relevant to rail monitoring is the launch of Trimble 4D for Rail, a special software module for real-time displacement monitoring and detection. This rail module simplifies the data collection process and reduces up to 95% of the office work required to automate movement detection.
Released in December, this software module makes rail monitoring easier than ever. For full details on exactly how, there’s a great Trimble Blog that’s well worth a read. Expect full information on:

The next generation of Trimble GEDO IMU, along with a new set of accessories, has also been released; All Trimble GEDO IMU systems will now feature a Wi-Fi connection for cable-free connection to your data logger along with new power management with battery hot-swap capability.
We’re delighted to see the wireless versions already being used effectively on sites across the country with Protech Rail Engineering and Network Rail.
Our own Matt Barwell has been testing it out and reports that “it’s handy and there’s no doubt the wireless connection to the data logger will really enhance the longevity of your equipment. This is definitely a smart move by Trimble.”
Contact Matt for a demo by calling him on 07974 255597.
We like to think of Trimble’s GEDO NovaTrack software as the missing piece of the puzzle. Super easy to use, cost effective and highly workable, we’ve been seeing great take up across the UK and Ireland with users reporting a turnaround time that’s 50% faster.
Simply, NovaTrack can be incorporated into your GEDO workflow to enable the creation of intelligent track alignments based on GEDO rail surveys.
Using GEDO NovaTrack, rail engineers will always be maintaining track to the same improved position therefore enhancing track quality and speed. Plus the new alignment can also be used to create 3D ballast files in GEDO Office for machine control applications.

Over the coming months, we’ll be attending:
The Rail Infrastructure Event – London 2023
Thursday 9 March 2023, 9:30am-13:30 | Business Design Centre, Islington
Rail Live – Stratford-upon-Avon 2023
Europe’s largest rail plant Show running on the 21st and 22nd June 2023
Towards the end of March, KOREC Rail will be hosting all of Trimble’s leading rail distributors at a special meeting at Doncaster’s National College For Advanced Transport & Infrastructure. This is an extremely prestigious event for KOREC to be a part of and it recognises the achievements of our rail team over the last 2 years.
However, the real business of this event is for Trimble and Trimble’s dealers to get their heads together to share best practice, new and exciting workflows, technical knowledge and above all, your feedback. This is absolutely the best opportunity we have with Trimble for sharing what you , our customers, really want to see technology wise in the future.
Please do use the LinkedIn comments section to get your wish list into the hands of those that can really help!

Assisting the PWI with the survey works for the upcoming (end of March) practical trackwork challenge to be held at the Midland Railway – Butterley in Derbyshire. This follows on from last year’s successful participation in this event.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
In the beautiful Staffordshire countryside lies 16.9km of preserved, standard gauge heritage railway better known as the Churnet Valley Railway. Noted for its nostalgic steam train rides and themed days out, it’s also now the destination for many KOREC customers keen to see the latest Trimble GEDO technology demonstrated on a track.
Following the restrictions imposed by lockdown on our usual demonstration area, we were delighted to have permission to base ourselves so centrally at the railway’s Kingsley and Froghall station where, over the course of the year, we have held many demonstrations for customers as well as training days for the KOREC rail team.

Of course, one good turn deserves another so we’re in the process of surveying the entire track to provide Churnet Valley Railway with a full survey, including 3D geometry, that will be particularly useful for any future maintenance work.

Whilst previously the Churnet Valley team undertook ad hoc surveys using traditional methods, KOREC’s Matt Barwell and Trimble’s Matt Moss decided that with the pick of the Trimble portfolio, by far the most time efficient method would be to use Trimble’s GEDO IMS + GNSS system which enables track survey and subsequent track design based on absolute coordinates with valid alignment elements. The R-series GNSS receiver was operated in conjunction with the GEDO IMU allowing them to shoot in control via the GEDO Profiler, which was used to measure distance and height offsets between the track and any reference point/object adjacent to the track.
The two Matts were extremely appreciative of the system’s time efficiencies having already surveyed around 8km of track (4km in each direction) in just 5 hours.
KOREC then processed this data and turned it into a DXF CAD ready drawing should Churnet Valley need it for any future maintenance.
We are delighted that our most recent visit to this scenic site resulted in a GEDO sale to Volker Rail for use on the Transpennine Route Upgrade East. More details soon!
We are delighted to announce that we have extended our dedicated rail team with the appointment of Ric Kirman in the newly created role of KOREC Rail Business Area Manager.
With a rail career that began over 15 years ago, Ric has established his reputation as a specialist in the provision of advanced technical solutions with a range of roles that began in Signalling and Operations with Network Rail and more recently, has included working closely with the rail industry to focus on customer relationships.
Ric will be part of a KOREC rail team that is highly experienced at working within the pressurised rail environment and that has an excellent understanding of the industry’s pain points and how technology can be used to alleviate these challenges, with particular reference to Trimble’s GEDO suite of track measurement systems.
Ric and the KOREC rail team will be supporting the rail industry with extensive local knowledge backed up by access to the global experience and reach of Trimble Rail.
