KOREC Ireland drone donation for Maynooth University

KOREC Ireland is delighted to have furthered its relationship with Maynooth University through the donation of a senseFly eBee RTK (Real time Kinematic) fixed-wing drone.

Manufactured in Switzerland, the eBee RTK is one of the industry’s most accurate and reliable drones for aerial mapping applications. KOREC will be backing up this donation with related training and presentations to students and staff over the coming academic year

The donation to the university’s Department of Geography, which will be used for both teaching and research, was arranged by Dr. Conor Cahalane FSCSI, FRICS, a Lecturer in Remote Sensing at the Department of Geography. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get experience ‘in the field’ – planning an aerial survey and then seeing the best drone technology in flight,” he said. “KOREC has been extremely generous donating the senseFly eBee RTK to the MSc in GIS/Remote Sensing and we are excited to start integrating this hardware in our teaching and research.”

The eBee was presented on Monday 23rd September at the University of Maynooth which is home to the National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG), the Irish Climate Analysis and Research UnitS (ICARUS) and a new SFI/industry strategic research partnership drone initiative, U-Flyte.

KOREC Group Marketing and Operations Director, Helen Gilmartin, who presented the drone said “UAV’s are increasingly becoming a must have for the geospatial surveying industry to collect high level data over large areas. It is excellent to see universities adapting to include UAVs in their course so that students can get a hands-on approach as part of their studies. KOREC is delighted to be able to support this and provide a fixed-wing drone, senseFly’s eBee for the students to have as part of their course.”
