The Faro Focus3D laser scanner combines portability and ease of use to provide a unique scanning system. This two day course provides an introduction to the scanner and the associated SCENE software. The scanner hardware options and target types are reviewed, followed by some scanning basics and safety issues.
The on board software is accessed through a touch screen interface. The interface and menu options are introduced, including the creation and management of scan jobs. All the scanner settings configurable through the touch screen interface are covered.
Various scanning scenarios are discussed and scan preparation reviewed. Practice scans are performed to ensure familiarization with the data capture process.
Once data has been captured the course moves on to consider the Faro SCENE software. SCENE is mainly used to preprocess scan data for use in other applications. This section begins by reviewing the installation, licensing and configuration of the SCENE software.
The SCENE software is then used to preprocess data, mainly in the registration and colourisation of scans. The process of manually registering scans is covered in case automatic registration should fail. Data filtering and similar data operations prior to data export are practiced.
The final section covers data export and provides an introduction to some of the 3rd party software packages used to post process scan data, including Pointools and RealWorks.
