This course is for those proficient in ESRI formats and Geo-databases in conjunction with GPS data collection. An initial hardware overview is followed by project setup for Trimble® GPS Analyst and enabling Geo-databases and accuracy requirements.
The check out/in process between ArcPad/ArcGIS is covered and its unique advantages are discussed. A detailed field exercise will be carried out to ensure that the user is completely happy with calibrating GPS Correct and collecting data in ArcPad. Analysing results is a vital part of any companies QA and this is a forte of GPS Analyst, making it a favourite with ESRI/GPS users.
Objectives
Those completing this module/course will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of GPS including limitations and accuracy factors
- Understand your GPS hardware and operating system including calibration, charging and general trouble-shooting
- Become familiar with the functionality of ArcPad and its integration with Trimble’s GPS Correct
- Be able to plan, create and transfer projects from ESRI desktop applications to ArcPad and then set up Quickforms for efficient data capture
- Become proficient at configuring the GPS in GPS Correct and data collection using a variety of techniques with a thorough practical exercise
- Be able to retrieve data from the device, display in ESRI desktop and analyse with GPS Analyst software
