KOREC to launch ‘hands-on’ Trimble Machine Control Operator Training at Hillhead 2012

KOREC Group

KOREC is delighted to announce that it will be using this year’s Hillhead Exhibition in June to launch the first of its hands-on Machine Control Training Courses. The Trimble GCS900 Machine Control Training Course has been developed in collaboration with Trimble and will be a two-day site based, course aimed at Machine Operators. In a move away from web based training, the course will be led on-site by a KOREC instructor to ensure a more robust training experience for Operators.  This practical approach will allow those attending to see systems and machines first hand and in a context relevant to… Read More

Destination 40° 0′ 0″ N, 45° 0′ 0″ E

KOREC Group

For KOREC Technical Support Analyst Darius Mirdamadi, a recent training request from our Mapping Consultant Martyn Palmer, took him slightly out of his comfort zone when he found himself 2500 miles away in a mountain range in Armenia! Training a group of geologists involved in gold prospecting for Lydian International, Darius spend two days teaching them how to use their new Trimble ProXRT and Recon controller with 10cm Oministar accuracy to collect borehole information for GIS analysis. Safely back at his desk, Darius reports that the team were keen and fast learners , treated him like family and everything went… Read More

GNSS Training

At the end of the 3 day GNSS training course run this past week in Huntingdon, a little time was spent going through how to check the optical plumb on the tribrach. We spend a great deal of time making sure that when we establish new control points using GNSS that the processing is done to a high degree of precision. However during the course of the survey the antenna is generally mounted in a tribrach on top of a tripod. It therefore seems sensible that before undertaking a control survey that the circular bubble and optical plumb on the tribrach are tested. These… Read More

Terramodel Training

Terramodel has been around a long time, and consequently has great depth in terms of CAD functionality for survey data processing and construction data preparation. Last week I spent two days in York training on Terramodel.  Most of those on the course hadn’t used Terramodel a great deal in the past, if at all. I tend to find that if someone is used to using AutoCad then they’ll take to Terramodel very easily. A couple of questions arose during the training, which I think are useful to pass on. Firstly in the Configuration settings, what is the affect of increasing the… Read More

Nikon Total Station Training Up On The Moor

The weather is  becoming something of an obsession for the KOREC training team. This week I found myself gazing out of a site cabin window as ice cold rain gusted past horizontally. It was the sort of winter rain you often find on exposed windy moors; if it doesn’t have a name already, it should. If I hadn’t been pulling my jacket on, about to lead an outdoor training session on setting out I probably wouldn’t have paid much attention to it. The students keyed the coordinates of the points to be set out directly into the Nikon Total Station. On this… Read More

Trimble SCS900 & SPS GPS Receiver Training In The Mud

Yesterday I was out training on a very muddy site in Cheshire. The site is using Trimble GNSS kit for surveying and have also been using machine control at earlier stages in the earthworks.   The Base GNSS receiver is an SPS851 with the data logging option enabled in it. With the data logging option enabled it is possible to log raw GNSS data that can be post processed using RINEX data from the Ordnance Survey to obtain an accurate National Grid fix. A couple of questions arose during the training. Firstly what would happen if the SPS851 is powered down whilst it is… Read More
