KOREC’s survey consultant, Ian Hall covered how the BIM model can be used on the construction site and how you can improve your productivity and accuracy when setting out. Ian demonstrated reports showing issues and conflicts as construction progresses and talked through the simple user interface available with Trimble Field Link. The webinar was 35mins long and explains how your site workers can clearly visualise the design and set out more efficiently, check work and report back in real time. You will learn how you can extend the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflow processes… Read More

We are delighted to welcome our first KOREC guest blogger, Steve Bury, owner of Bury Associates Ltd. Steve has kindly taken the time to tell us how the FARO Focus3D laser scanner and the rise of BIM has changed the way he works. Specialists in BIM and laser scanning services, topographical surveys and measured building surveys, Bury Associates has been providing its clients with Revit Building Information Models of existing buildings and structures since 2007. Last year the company’s Revit work on Manchester Central Library contributed to it being named as the ‘most BIM friendly project’ of 2011. Steve’s blog:… Read More

BIM…it’s the topic of the moment and will be the subject of more discussion at this year’s COMIT (Construction Opportunities for Mobile IT) event. The COMIT conference will be held on the 11th November in London between 9.30am and 4.00pm and will focus on the value that BIM via mobile devices can bring to the construction industry and building users. Guest speakers include Costain, Halcrow, BT, Bentely ICES and of course KOREC. BIM is likely to become mandatory for all public sector building projects within 5 years and KOREC’s Oliver Brooks will be taking a close look at the subject… Read More

My colleague Oliver Brooks’ recent blog takes a look at the hot topic of the moment in the construction and engineering world – BIM. KOREC are recent converts to the world of Twitter and there is a great deal of conversation in the ‘Twittersphere’ around BIM and it seems that everyone wants to have their say. It’s no surprise then that there are BIM events springing up left, right and centre and the KOREC calendar is looking pretty hectic over the next few months as a result. We’ll be attending a number of events for a number of reasons. Like… Read More

Everyone seems to be talking about BIM so it seemed the perfect topic for my first blog. BIM, or so I naively thought, was a fairly new concept, with various technological solutions being promoted that would fulfill all our BIM needs. When I started to research the topic in more detail and discuss it with colleagues in the industry, the overwhelming response I received was that BIM, often under some other term, has been in use for 25 years, or even more. It was Charles (Chuck) Eastman at Georgia Institute of Technology in the US that first introduced the concept… Read More

Since the start of 2011, we’ve seen all the major industry publications from NCE to CES take a closer look at BIM (Building Information Modelling). Our own Technical Director Oliver Brooks has even had his say in GeoConnexion. But what is BIM and why the sudden flux of articles, many of which highlight the fact that almost half of those involved in our industry are unaware of it? Put simply, BIM is not a suite of slick software but a process, a process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Typically BIM is a 3D representation of… Read More
