KOREC are once again pleased to be supporting the successful seminar series GeoDATA. This series of seminars is organised by the GeoInformation Group and is FREE to attend, this year the content focuses on data sharing, and KOREC’s own GIS experts will be hosting a seminar on Wireless Data Transfer, and it’s relevance to GIS. When it comes to mapping in difficult conditions, Trimble’s ProXRT GNSS system comes out on top! Faced with a hire customer who needed to carry out a survey of a densely vegetated and overgrown path, KOREC Ireland’s Brock Ryder refused to be beaten when even the ever reliable Trimble’s GeoXT hand held mapping system could only record 30% of the path’s features. Undeterred by the heavy snow, early February saw the English Heritage team of Trevor Pearson, Peter Topping and David Field on-site in Wiltshire collecting data for a 1:1000 scale survey of the archaeological earthworks of Stonehenge and its immediate environs and a 1:2500 archaeological survey of the wider landscape. The team carried out the 1:1000 survey using Trimble’s R8 GNSS receiver with VRS Now Service (providing instant access to RTK corrections across Great Britain without the need for a base station) and a Trimble mapping GeoXT hand held GPS for the second survey.
